AHTI
Studio for Integrated Design, Landscape, & PlanningAhti Westphal is a design practitioner and educator working across architecture, landscape, and urbanism, with a focus on regenerative systems, cultural infrastructure, and material intelligence. He is the founder of AHTI — Studio for Integrated Design, Landscape, & Planning, an independent consultancy based in Minneapolis and active across the U.S. and internationally.
With over two decades of professional experience, Ahti brings a rare ability to move fluidly across scales—from ecological masterplans and bioclimatic housing frameworks to crafted installations and community-led planning. His work is rooted in deep listening, cross-cultural dialogue, and a belief in the power of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) to shape meaningful, place-based futures.
His past projects span bioclimatic housing in East Africa, urban and landscape planning in the American Midwest, cultural research in Cambodia, and agroforestry initiatives in the Brazilian Amazon. Prior to founding AHTI, he co-directed the award-winning Studio ATLAS in Beijing and worked with renowned artist and architect Maya Lin in New York, contributing to a range of projects at the intersection of land art, memory, and environmental design.
Ahti currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Minnesota and lectures internationally at institutions including CAFA Beijing, Brown University, and Minzu University. His work has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, ICON, Architectural Digest, and Wallpaper, among others.
He welcomes new collaborations, public projects, and partnerships that prioritize ecological intelligence, cultural narrative, and design that serves both people and place.
